Public lecture Stronger Than You Think: Building Lifelong Resilience, by Sherry Hamby

The Research team on positive adaptation, well-being and mental health of youth at increased risk of family or social adversity is pleased to welcome Professor Sherry Hamby for a workshop, a public lecture, and a cocktail reception with a book signing on the main campus of the Université de Sherbrooke on October 7 and 8, 2026.

Sherry Hamby, PhD, is Professor of Psychology at the University of the South (Sewanee, United States) and Director of the Life Paths Research Center. A clinical psychologist by training, she is internationally recognized for her work on violence, trauma, and resilience. Her research focuses in particular on victimization experiences and the protective factors that foster positive adaptation in the face of adversity.

Author of more than 200 scientific publications and founder of the international conference ResilienceCon, her work has helped renew prevention and intervention approaches by emphasizing individual, family, and community strengths. In May 2026, she published the book Stronger Than You Think: Building Lifelong Resilience.
